Acacia is a relatively easy and relaxing skirt to crochet, built around a repeating leaf motif. The construction itself is straightforward, but there is one important requirement: you need to be comfortable reading crochet charts to make this pattern.
Once you get into the rhythm of the repeat, Acacia becomes a very enjoyable project for those evenings when you want to crochet while watching a less demanding TV show. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for particularly plot-heavy series — the repeating nature of the pattern makes it surprisingly easy to lose your place or miss a stitch when you’re not paying attention.
If you ever feel stuck or have any questions while working on this project, you’re always welcome to contact me on Instagram or Facebook at @sharkotea – I’ll be happy to help.
YARN
For this project, I recommend using a fingering weight yarn with good blocking properties. Fibers such as viscose or bamboo work particularly well, as they respond beautifully to blocking. However, the pattern has also been successfully tested with cotton blends and even linen, so you have plenty of options when choosing your yarn.
Frequent blocking is essential for this project. The leaf pattern blocks exceptionally well, which means the fabric can gain length very quickly. I recommend using a steamer regularly as you work to control how much the fabric is growing in length and to keep the proportions of the skirt under control.
YARDAGE (Approximate)
The yarn amounts listed below are approximate and are based on fingering weight yarn and a floor-length version of the project.
The exact amount of yarn required will vary depending on:
- Your size and the finished length you choose.
- The weight of your yarn — the thicker the yarn, the less you’ll need.
- The crochet hook size you use.
- Your personal gauge/tension — if you crochet tightly, you may need more yarn; if you crochet loosely, you may need less.
